The Jasper Lions Club was chartered on November 30, 1950 by Lions International and was sponsored by the Loogootee Lions Club. Forty-six energetic young men comprised the roster. Local attorney Clem Nordhoff was the club’s first president. The charter night banquet was held at the Rustic Tavern in Jasper. Welcoming remarks were made by Mayor Herbert Thyen.
